What to expect at your dog portrait session-2
Patience
Be patient. Animals, particularly dogs feed off of your energy. Take breaks and allow your pet to relax or play. Let’s not look for that “perfect” shot. Instead let’s focus on fun, and the love between you and your pet. The images will come naturally.
Assistance
Get ready to assist. Your pet is most interested in you, not me. You can really help guide your pets attention to the camera. Getting a pet to stay while you back away and come behind me is a great way to be an active participant in the session.
A relaxed and happy companion will result in more natural, authentic images.
• Observe your pets body language to gauge their comfort level
• Create a familiar environment by incorporating their favorite toys or blankets
• Take breaks to allow them to rest and recharge.
Positive Reinforcement
Use positive reinforcement. Reward your pet with treats or praise when they sit still. Move around, stand next to me, behind me and next to your pet. All of these different positions will give your pet different perspectives and more interesting images.
• Praise your pet in an enthusiastic voice
• Reward immediately right after they’ve been a good boy or girl
Bring Favorite Props, Toys and Treats
Use Props. Consider using toys, blankets other items that your pet loves. Here are some ideas
• Favorite Toys. We can capture some great moments your pet playing with their favorite toy
• Blankets or beds. Create a cozy setting by including their preferred relaxing spot.
• Keep a variety of small, favorite treats on hand
I will be ready….
I will be ready for the unexpected. Whether they strike an adorable pose or get distracted by something in the environment, I will be ready to capture these moments as they happen. Communicating with me your pets behaviors and mannerisms will enable me to recognize and capture those moments.
